About
Zachary Lewis is a British garden designer and horticulturist known for creating landscapes that harmonize beautifully with their surroundings. His work is defined by bold compositions, clean geometry, and a strong aesthetic sensibility. Many of his designs encourage outdoor living through sheltered spaces, heating solutions, and secluded areas for comfort and relaxation.
With over 30 years of experience, Zachary understands that while balanced layouts and striking hardscaping are essential to a garden’s beauty, it is ultimately the planting that transforms a space into something truly magical.
He studied Fine Art and Sculpture at Chelsea School of Art and Design before completing his Garden Design training at the Chelsea Physic Garden in 1998. Working in gardens since the age of 19, he initially built his career as a tree surgeon before transitioning fully into Garden Design at 25.
Over the years, Zachary has seen the evolution of garden design from hand-drawn plans to 2D CAD and 3D computer modeling. Proficient in all three, he now primarily designs using 3D software, which provides significant benefits to both designer and client.
His passion for craftsmanship spans decades, with hands-on expertise in carpentry, hard landscaping, and specialized garden construction techniques. He remains deeply involved in every aspect of his projects, often found on-site, actively contributing to the build process.
Zachary has founded several design firms, including Creative Garden Works (1998), Lewispol Landscape Design (2006), and ZL Garden Design LTD (2010).
